Mayazul Area Guide

We've put together some photos and information for you on southern Quintana Roo, from the Costa Maya peninsula including Mahahual, Rio Huach, and Xcalak; to Bacalar, Chetumal, and the border with Belize. This guide is organized in Parts as you're likely to experience them travelling to Mayazul. It also contains lots of links to additional information and an extensive photo gallery. Enjoy your trip!
Part 1 - Felipe Carrillo Puerto

The first leg of the trip South of Tulum and around the Biosphere: "As we cleared the city limits, things changed quickly. Tulum really is the "end" of the Mayan Riviera. The road got a bit thinner, but still good concrete or blacktop with a posted speed of 80..."
Part 2 - Mahahual

The second part of the trip to the Costa Maya port city of Mahahual: "We drive east until the road ends at the ocean and Mahahual's landmark lighthouse shoots upward. If you look north you can see the cruise ship dock which can handle 5 ships at a time..."
Part 3 - Rio Huach

Below Mahahual and north of Xcalak lies the Rio Huach preserve and future development site. "Between the lagoons and the beach lies the property that will become "Mayazul," a green, eco-friendly, master planned community that will include it's own hi-tech, low-impact infrastructure."
Part 4 - Bacalar

North of Chetumal is the picturesque village of Bacalar. "As we come over a small rise I see this incredible blue ribbon of water to the south. This is the Bacalar Lagoon, or "lake of seven colors".
Part 5 - Chetumal

Chetumal is the Capital of Quintana Roo as well a center for international trade. "A broad boulevard follows the beautiful bay along the southern and eastern sides of the city. You'll drive by the Governor's office, convention center, and art installations..."
